Aug 25 - Aloha

Aloha my wonderful humans!!!

How is everyone???

On Tuesday we had our zone conference!! A bunch of teachers from the MTC came and gave us training. It reminded me of HOW MUCH I learned there. It was awesome having another reminder. Oh, and Elder Reis from The District was one of the teachers! That was pretty cool.

One thing that I've learned is that Heavenly Father prepares us for the roles we will fulfill in the future. On Friday, Laie Zone had their zone conference. But since all the sisters from the VC needed to be there, the AP's called me and asked if I would cover their shifts! So on friday me and Sister Kil (another VC sister who's full field too) got to go cover their shifts all day! Like, aaallllllll day. 9am to 5pm. But it was soooo good! It made me super excited to go back. I realized all the things I had missed about it. I also felt more prepared having gone full-field, I gained so much experience that I think will help me there. And Elder Priday asked me to be sister trainer, which will be sooo fun! Basically the only difference is that I go to more meetings and get to go on exchanges with everyone!!! Woo!

Update on Waipahu humans:
-Johan! He's doing really good. Still quitting smoking.... but seriously he's sooooo clooooose! He's totally ready to be baptized, the smoking is his only hold back. Also, plot twist! I found out he's (part) mexican. Not that it makes a difference... except now I can talk to him in spanish so that's fun.
-Melanie and Nolan: they're just the most spectacular people! Still getting baptized for sure. They have been learning and growing their faith sooo muchhhh. It's the most rewarding thing to watch people change as they learn more about the gospel. Understanding doctrine changes people.
-Brenson: He moved. :( But all is well, the missionaries in the mainland will continue to teach him!
-Mama Netta: She got transffered to the Elders because she moved! But she's getting ready to get baptized too!

Well sorry this is short! I love you all sooo much! Don't forget to read your scriptures every day. Righteousness= happiness.

Aug 18- Salutations!

Aloha my lovely ohana!!!

No worries about the email last week!! I still got emails from people :) So you went to Alaska?! So fun!!! Sounds like a nice contrast in weather from what AZ must be right now.
Wellll this week has been pretty lovely!!!
First things first, you know how this is a short transfer? Just four weeks?! Sooooo I was reallly hoping that since it's a short transfer President would let me stay out for another transfer here. I saw him at a fireside last night and asked him, and he told me I was going back to Laie. My heart broke a little bit. I'm excited because Laie is like my home... Buuuuut all my people here!!!!! I will miss them so much!!!!!!! But all is well.... I know they'll be taken good care of. So I'll be back in Laie in 9 days!! It's crazy how fast time flies... I feel like I just got to Hawaii last week.

So! You know that miracle referral?! Melanie and Nolan?! Well! Good news! They have been coming to church in our ward the past three weeks, and we had our first lesson with them last Tuesday, and they are getting baptized!!!!! Woooo!!! We're SO happy for them. They are seriously the most prepared people. We didn't even do anything except teach them the first lesson and invite them to be baptized. They're awesoooome. Their baptism will be right after I leave, but it's all good!!! I'm just so happy for them! Haha Melanie is a school teacher, and so she loves to read and study. She pretty much begs us for homework assignments before our lessons, so she can be more prepared. When she reads she takes notes, makes lists of questions, tries to find the answers herself, and tells us what she finds. She is a DREAM investigator. No joke.

Anyway, another miracle from this week! Some elders in our zone planned a huge luau for everyone and their investigator and their dog. (It was just like the one on The District DVD!) The turnout was fantastic. There were more non-members than there were members! They did a rotation thing where you could learn how to make Leis, how to do a Filipino dance, how to hula, how to make a grass skirt, and a "temple room" where you could learn about the temple. Everyone just rotated through and it was so fun! We met these guys that were currently living in a boys home, and have a pretty rough life. But they were so receptive to everything it was ridiculous! They saw the picture of a baptismal font, and we explained what baptism was and they were like "no way! I want that. I wanna get baptized! How can I get baptized??" I wish everyone's reaction was like that haha! They were just so humble. Haaaaa OH and one of the boys with them was Kalani!!!!! Remember from Laie, how I was teaching a 14 year old foster child named Kalani? Well my last week in Laie he ran away, and everyone was so worried. And I was really sad. But he was there at the Luau!!!! He was still kind of a punk and wasn't open to anything, but it just made me so happy to see him.

Well I love you all so much!!!!! Have a great week and remembaaaa whooo youuuu aaaahhhhh (*said in Mufasa's voice).

Aug 11 - We survived the Hurricane!!!

Aloha!
Yes, I'm alive. :) We found out about the hurricane on Monday, and that's all anyone would talk about all week. All the large supplies of water was sold out at Walmart, and bottled water was selling for 7 dollars a bottle, everyone's windows were taped...... but alas! It was just windy and rainy. It got the Big Island worse than Oahu, they got some flooding over there. But other than that everyone is good! President told everyone to stay in our pads on Friday..... but that it was also up to our own judgement..... so Sister Haws and I went out anyway. And it was DIVINE because everyone was home!!!!! School and work was canceled for almost everyone, so it was a huge blessing being able to actually catch people at home! We could use some hurricanes more often!

Jonah is doing soooo well!! He's still sticking to his plan to quit smoking... and he's doing so good. His faith is growing every day. I hope I'm here for a third transfer, because they I can see him get baptized! But we'll see what happens!

Fun fact:
-We started teaching a lady named Mama Netta. She's a hilarious black woman, who also happens to be the mother of NFL player Ashley Lelei! I know like 4 things total about football, but apparently he's famous or something? Anyway. She's awesome. She mah home gurl. hahaa.

So, miracle!! The other day we got a call from a lady who lives in Laie. She said she has friends who live in our area who have been coming to church with them in Laie for the past two months! They're a couple named Melanie and Nolan. They are super interested in the church.... they've been reading the Book of Mormon (they're already in Alma!), they read the Ensign every month, and they already live the standards. Anyway, they came to church in our ward last Sunday, so we got to meet them and set up appointments! We have been praying to find people who are prepared in this area, and it is happening! It makes me think of what the Lord says in 2 Nephi 27:21 "I am able to do mine own work." It's so true.... this is HIS work, and HE is preparing these people! I just feel so blessed that He's allowing me to take a small part in witnessing it.

Anyway, I love you dear family!!!
Much aloha!!

PS...Good news, I learned how to kill cockroaches! All by myself. It's been a major step up in life. I hope you're doing well! don't melt!!!

Aug 6- HI :)

Aloha!!
Well, transfers were this week!! It's been a craazy week, but so good! My new companion is Sister Haws, and I absolutely LOVE her!!! I'm so excited to serve with her this transfer. This is actually a four week transfer, so maybe I'll get to stay full-field for a third transfer?! We shall see! I'm kind of hoping to stay, because this area is making lots of progress right now. But of course I'm happy to go wherever the Lord wants to send me. :)

Jonah is doing so well!! He really wants to be baptized, and now the only thing holding him back is quitting smoking.
So. Last transfer I acquired a new habit. Sister Curtis loves Diet Coke, and so we would stop at the 7/11 right by our house a couple of times a day to get Big Gulps. We were always stopping by, and she would get some, Sister Mottl would get some, so then I would get some. I guess I'm a social drinker (Oh the things you learn about yourself on a mission). So anyway, I was super addicted to Dr. Pepper! Like, this was a genuine addiction. I don't usually like soda that much... but Dr. Pepper is the answer to my hearts duet!!!!! So anyway, we taught Jonah about the Word of Wisdom, and invited him to give up smoking. To help and support him, I decided to give up Dr. Pepper too. And let me tell you, it has not been easy! But we have this fantastic little support group going on, and it's really quite encouraging. We made a plan for him, and he's been following it perfectly! And I've stopped drinking Dr. Pepper for good by now. It's a miracle, on both ends! It's amazing what faith in Jesus Christ does. I know that Jonah's faith is growing every day, and it's the BEST watching him change and come closer to Christ. This gospel changes people. It changes people when nothing else will. It's is all because of the plan of happiness, that has given us a way to change!

Quote of the day/wisdom from Sister Haws: The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, but the second best time to plant a tree is today.
I just like this. That's all. :)

Anyway, sorry for the short email. I LOVE you all!!!!

ps. tell me about your lives!!! I love hearing from you!!!
